WatPo was
originally built in 1767, and rebuilt/added to over the next 150
years. The Wat is sort of a fortress containing multiple edifices
and statuary. The most important Wat (Thai for Temple) within
holds the huge RECLINING BUDDHA. Unfortunately, I was unable to
get a photo of this, so I attach a couple lifted from the internet.

Buddha is 143 ft long and 50 ft tall - photo taken from Wikipedia. |
The 10
ft high and 15 ft long foot of Buddha is inlaid with mother-of-pearl.
It is divided into 108 signs of the true lord Buddha, with
symbols by which Buddha can be identified like flowers, dancers,
white elephants, and tigers. Photo taken from Wikipedia. |

These shaped
edifices are known as STUPAS (or CHEDIS) and are burial sites
for the ashes of kings past. Again, incredibly intricate mosaic
work. These large STUPAS have been dedicated to the first four
kings of Thailand.
